SVT Nyheter – Drammen
The devastating wildfire in Drammen, Norway, became one of the country’s largest fire emergencies in recent years, destroying homes, forcing thousands of people to evacuate, and leaving entire neighbourhoods in ruins. Commissioned by SVT, I travelled to Drammen together with Julia Langels from SVT Karlstad to provide continuous live coverage as the situation developed, reporting directly from the front line of the emergency. In addition to the live broadcasts, we produced a feature for SVT Rapport focusing on the human consequences of the disaster.
One of the people we met was 16-year-old Mie Aimée, who was home alone when the fire reached her neighbourhood. She escaped with only moments to spare and managed to save just one possession: a teddy bear she had received from her grandfather when she was born. By the time the flames were extinguished, her home had been completely destroyed, leaving her family with an uncertain future.
