For Deutsche Welle, Germany’s international public broadcaster, I filmed for a report called “Sweden: Buying Instead of Renting.” The report explores the challenges of finding affordable housing in Sweden, particularly in Stockholm, where demand far exceeds supply. Even though the rental market is highly regulated, waiting times for a rent-controlled apartment can exceed 20 years. As a result, many people are forced to rely on the insecure and often expensive secondary market—or turn to buying property as an alternative.
