Hand me down, Raise me up
Driven by overconsumption, clothing volumes have reached a breaking point. In the EU, textiles can no longer be thrown away with household waste, yet in Sweden sorting centres can no longer cope. Clothes are resold in Europe or exported to markets like Kampala, Uganda. The system is under pressure.
The film shows where real change is already happening — and how the system can be adapted.
Hand Me Down, Raise Me Up moves between Kampala, where second-hand clothing supports entire livelihoods, and Sweden, where designers are finding ways to redesign garments and extend their life. It also follows Houdini, a Swedish outdoor brand working to build a more sustainable model.
As Sweden producer on Hand Me Down, Raise Me Up, I worked on a Mambopanda production about how we produce, consume and reuse clothing.
