Nära – Eating disorder online treatment

The project with the Stockholm Centre for Eating Disorders (SCÄ) and their internet-treatment NÄRA (published via 1177 Vårdguiden) was conceived to strengthen digital access to evidence-based care for individuals with eating disorders. SCÄ offers specialised care for adults with eating disorders, and the NÄRA programme provides structured online treatment modules, including sessions for both patients and their relatives. In collaboration with SCÄ I produced around 25 concise video-modules intended to enrich the digital treatment pathway. These short films guide users through key steps of the NÄRA programme: recognising signs of an eating disorder, navigating treatment tools, engaging with your support network, and integrating self-help in everyday life. One of the films focuses specifically on the role of Frisk & Fri – Riksföreningen mot ätstörningar, a Swedish national patient organisation. Frisk & Fri supports individuals with eating disorders and their relatives, offers mentoring and peer-groups, and advocates for improved treatment and prevention in Sweden. In the film we captured how lived experience adds value to formal treatment, and how connecting with peer networks can enhance recovery and resilience. By producing these films I aimed to create accessible, engaging and supportive visual content that aligns with SCÄ’s clinical content, but presents it in a friendly, clear format suited for digital self-help. The videos support the core NÄRA modules, reinforce that treatment is possible, and highlight the important role of community and peer support via Frisk & Fri. The project demonstrates how clinical services and media production together can expand reach, reduce barriers and provide meaningful support for those affected by eating disorders.
