The Linnaeus Expedition
In Expedition Linné, Swedish natural-history photographer Mattias Klum and investigative journalist Filmmaker Folke Rydén invite three young participants to travel to seven continents and venture into the deepest seas and outer space in the spirit of Carl Linnaeus’s curiosity. The documentary, produced for the 300-year anniversary of Linnaeus, asks critical questions such as: “How must we act today in order to survive tomorrow?” and “How can scientific research contribute to a better world?”
With rich imagery and high production ambition, the film blends spectacular nature sequences, interviews with leading scientists and personal reflections from the young expedition team. Critics noted its beauty and hopefulness, though some found the format ambitious. Through this blend of adventure and inquiry, Klum and Rydén aim not only to show the planet’s fragility, but to inspire a new generation to carry forward Linnaeus’s legacy of wonder, observation and responsibility.
